I have to admit that this next blog entry was difficult to write. I had a lot that needed to be said. So, what I decided to do was to break it into two parts. It amazes me at how much information is in 23 words.
“The he took his staff in his hand and chose five smooth stones from the brook and put them in his shepherd’s pouch.” 1 Samuel 17:40
The water is important here. Don’t miss that. The water smoothed out the stones from time spent with the current flowing over them. What water should we go to, to find our stones? Let’s look at some verses to find our answer.
13 Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, 14but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” John 4:13-14
37 On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. 38Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’” John 7:37-38
17 For the Lamb in the midst of the throne will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of living water, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.” Rev 7:17
Seems to me that we should look to Jesus and the scriptures. If we believe in Jesus as our Lord and Savior, He is the “living water.” He has flowed across the scriptures and has smoothed them out for us. The same is true of us, as Jesus flows over us, He smoothes us out.
That brings us to selecting the first stone. See Training 201: Selecting the Right Stones – Part Two – The First Stone
